Dive Logbook for PROTEA BANKS

WOW, WHAT A DAY, ACTION FROM BEGINNING TO END (a 72 minute dive)! Thanks to my special dive buddy - SURESH - another ONCE IN A LIFETIME!

2 June 2013 | PROTEA BANKS

Current: mild
Viz: 30m+
Sea Temp: 22 degrees Celsius

Southern Pinnacles: So what happens when you drop into warm water, realize that viz is top to bottom and there is no current? ... you know this is going to be an INCREDIBLE dive!!!!! So firstly the viz is endless and the reef so alive with a wide variety of fish. Then you spot a Ragged-tooth shark, which is a bit out of place on the Southern Pinnacles. Then a couple of Potato Bass pop in to say Hi ... just to make sure you haven't forgotten about them. AND then you have 12 DOLPHINS swimming towards you, you rub your eyes and think you are dreaming ... but no there are 12 Dolphins now swimming, at 30m, right past you. Okay ... so dive could have ended right here but is doesn't ... another Potato Bass swims right up to you and then you spot a big shoal of Kingfish surrounded by so many reef fish. Then a glimpse of a Lesser Guitar shark. On the way up are entertained by 4 Oceanic Blacktip sharks. AND then we spot a fisherman's paradise - HUNDREDS of shoaling fish including Bigeye Kingfish, with Tropical Amberjacks popping in and out.

AND then of course there were the 5 Remora's, that decided today was a great day to attack Kym's hair ... I must admit a few choice words were used!

WOW, WHAT A DAY, ACTION FROM BEGINNING TO END (a 72 minute dive)! Thanks to my special dive buddy - SURESH - another ONCE IN A LIFETIME!

DIVE 1 - Northern Pinnacles: Hardly any current so got time to explore the reef. Lots of reef fish and a Potato Bass. Then coming up had at least 3 Bull (Zambezi) and 3 Oceanic Blacktip sharks popping in and out of dive, for about 40 minutes! WOW, what a dive!

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacles: Again hardly any current, so lots of time spent on the reef, which was spectacular. Also has 1 Potato Bass and a Black Spotted Ray. In midwater we were then joined by 3 Oceanic Blacktip sharks which were very friendly, one that kept on coming in very close and showing off. The viz was a bit reduced from the first dive but the interaction with the Oceanic Blacktip sharks was INCREDIBLE!!!!

Monday morning blues? ... Well not if you were diving PROTEA BANKS TODAY! MIND BLOWING DIVES AND BEYOND!

6 May 2013 | PROTEA BANKS

Current: medium
Viz: 30m+, top to bottom
Sea Temp: 24 degrees Celsius

DIVE 1 - BAITED SHARK DIVE: Where does one start? ... we had 1 HUGE Tiger shark that stayed with us for the whole dive. Then 10 to 14 Oceanic Blacktip sharks, popping in and out (sorry so much action, hard to keep an exact tab). And if this was not enough we had 4 Bull (Zambezi) sharks grace us with their presence. Also Bonito popping on and off the bait drum.

So if this didn't get your attention, the wait on the boat between a double tank, produced 2 big pods of Dolphins and well as a False Killer Whale.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacles: Another HUGE Tiger shark and 3 Bull (Zambezi) sharks at the bottom. Then 2 Eagle Rays and a Potato Bass. Then a HUGE MANTA RAY just to add a bit more flavour. The reef was alive with reef fish and also a big shoal of Bonito. Bored yet ... well the safety stop wasn't boring, we had 7 Oceanic Blacktip sharks and another 4 Bull (Zambezi) sharks.

WHAT A DAY ... and yes the time has come for all of you reading this to finally quit your jobs ... unless of course you work for Aqua Planet Dive Centre and Charter!

So due to all the threats of deleting me off Facebook, I have no choice but to do a bad post for Protea Banks today, so nobody has to quit their jobs or come on holiday immediately.

3 May 2013 | PROTEA BANKS
