A MARLIN ON PROTEA BANKS TODAY … WHOOP, WHOOP, WHOOP, WHOOP … YES AND KYM WAS FINALLY ON THE DIVE … WHAT A DAY – 17 YEARS IN THE MAKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9 November 2014 | PROTEA BANKS

Current: medium
Viz: 10m+ (very milky due to Plankton)
Sea Temp: 21 degrees Celsius

So today started out great. As we got past backline we had a school of very friendly Dolphins. The boat trip out continued to be exciting, with several Humpback Whale sightings and a mommy also showing off her baba.

DIVE 1 – Southern Pinnacles: The reef was alive with reef fish and lots of Bigeye Kingfish on Kingfish Gully. Then the Hammerhead sharks hits – all so fuzzy right now, but I just remember swimming in all directions after Hammerhead sharks, big ones, small ones, big shoals, small shoals … WHEW EPIC!!!! AND THEN … on the safety stop I was just minding my own business and then, there it was, a MARLIN … not just any MARLIN … A MARLIN ‘poser’ showing itself off to the fullest … 17 years it took me to have this dive … so, so, so happy right now!!!!!!!

DIVE 2 – Southern Pinnacles (THE ARCH): We missed The Arch, I think because I got distracted by an Oceanic Blacktip shark. We then had some more Hammerhead shark action, but not nearly as much as the first dive. Also an Eagle Ray and a Round Ribbontail Ray. Then coming up we where entertained by Dusky and Oceanic Blacktip sharks popping in and out of the dive.

All in all with great sea conditions and EPIC sightings … I say it again – I LOVE MY JOB!!!!!!!
