Current: Slight Reverse
Viz: 15m
Sea Temp: 20 degrees Celsius

Northern Pinnacle: As we got to the bottom we had a MASSIVE Tiger Shark edging away from the caves. In the caves we had at least 50 Ragged Tooth Sharks. On our way to the second cave we had shoaling Duskys and shoaling Hammerhead Sharks. We also had a Potato Bass and lots of reef fish around. Mid water we had some more shoaling Hammerhead and Dusky Sharks with some Oceanic Blacktip Sharks darting in and out.

SHARKS, SHARKS AND MORE SHARKS ... HIL AND LINDA CAN NEVER CLAIM NO SHARKS ON PROTEA :)

28 September 2020 | PROTEA BANKS

Current: none
Viz: 20m at the bottom, 10 midwater
Sea Temp: 20 degrees Celsius

Northern Pinnacle: Wow what dive!!!!! We came down onto the first cave, with more than 100 Ragged-tooth sharks scattered all around like stepping stones, there was no need to even go to the cave. There was no current so we just chilled around the cave. Had a TIGER shark come cruising past on the outskirts. Soon after we saw a shoal of Hammerhead sharks, with an Oceanic Blacktip shark thinking he was one of them. Then another shoal of Hammerhead sharks with a TIGER shark cruising just underneath them. On the outskirts of the Ragged-tooth sharks, a Bull (Zambezi) shark passed by. As Kyle was ascending he saw a Mako shark. Midwater we had a Copper and an Oceanic Blacktip shark pop in. What an UNBELIEVABLE dive and to think all these sharks with Hil and Linda on on the dive. :)

Current: mild
Viz: 15m at the bottom, 8m midwater
Sea Temp: 20 degrees Celsius
DIVE 1 - Southern Pinnacle: Linda Frew and Hilary Jenkins got to see sharks, that is all we need to report.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: As we got down we started seeing Ragged-tooth sharks scattered all over the reef. As we came over the ridge it looked like shoaling Ragged-tooth sharks. The current was mild so we also got to appreciate all the fish life and the reef was alive. Mid water we had an Oceanic Blacktip in the distance. On the safety stop as we were about to come up I had a glimpse of Hammerhead sharks.

BACK ON PROTEA BANKS FOR SOME SUPER REWARDING DIVING.

15 August 2020 | PROTEA BANKS

Current: weak
Viz: 15m
Sea Temp: 21 degrees Celsius

5 whole months. That's how long it has been, 5 months dry ... today we broke the surface tension and finally did some awesome dives!! Double tank both on the Northern Caves.
First dive we were greeted by one of our regular big Potato Bass, with a very slow current we worked our way towards the caves, seeing only 2 Ragged-tooth sharks on our first dive. After seeing 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks in mid water we got to our safety stop and kept looking around for the Whales we could hear. Divemaster Kyle popped up with the group and noticed the WHALES just 50m inshore of the group, after a few tumble rolls the WHALES pulled in for a quick look coming right under the group and sped off on their course northwards.
Second dive we did the caves again, this time with a good number of about 10 Ragged-tooth sharks in the 1st cave, we spent majority of bottom time with the Ragged-tooth sharks and did a nice easy ascent with 2 Oceanic Blacktips coming in close and 2 Hammerheads keeping their distance from us. All in all a very good first day back in the water.

At about 15m, a MARLIN came into view on the sea side of the group ... after sticking around for a good 20 seconds, the Divemaster flashed and created some bubble clouds, the MARLIN came in buzzing the group and stuck around for a good 2 minutes in total ...
