25 November 2018 | PROTEA BANKS

Viz: 10m at the bottom and 15m at the top
Sea Temp: 18 degrees at the bottom and 23 degrees Celsius at the top

DIVE 1 - Northern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 5 Ragged-tooth sharks while we hovered over the the first cave. 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks came dipping down into the cold water to say HI !! As we drifted along the reef we had some fun and went to the swim through. Mid water we heard some Dolphins but didn't see them.

DIVE 2 - Baited Shark Dive: As we got into the water and had 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks waiting around the drum. As the dive went on we 2 more joined in and we had a Zambezi (Bull) shark circling at about 15m. We also had a MASSIVE Eagle Ray joining in and gracefully making his way into the distance again!!! Actually thought it as a Manta in the beginning due to size. LOL! And we also had a single Hammerhead shark pass by as we were about to get out!!! GREAT DIVE!!!

DIVE 1 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 10+ Ragged-tooth sharks, 1 Eagle Ray, 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark in the distance and loads of reef fish. Mid water we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: What a chilled dive!! As we got to the reef we had 3 Ragged-tooth sharks staying around with us for a few minutes. The reef was amazing with lots of reef fish everywhere, with a Potato Bass in the distance. Lots of schools of Bigeye Kingfish and Rainbow Runners. As we started to multilevel we had 2 Zambezi (Bull) sharks. Mid water we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark make a quick appearance before we got out the water.

DIVE 3 - Northern Pinnacle: On the reef we came down into a bunch of Ragged-tooth sharks. In the first cave we had no sharks but on the reef we had a few around us. We had 1 Huge shoal of Hammerhead sharks swimming over us, after we had the shoal of Hammerhead sharks we had one single swimming Hammerhead shark and it stayed for a few seconds circling us. Mid water we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark.

DIVE 4 - Northern Pinnacle: On our way down to the reef we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark. As we got to the first cave we had a massive shoal of at least 100 Hammerhead sharks pass right above and around us!!! No sharks in the cave however we had a few around and on the rest of the reef. Mid water we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark popping in and out.

The sea was a bit rough, but the diving was so worth it!!!!

SHARKS, SHARKS AND MORE SHARKS!!! SO STOKED WE GOT TO SEE A BIT MORE ON PROTEA BANKS TODAY!!

DIVE 1 - Northern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 5 Ragged-tooth sharks. Some of the divers saw a Zambezi (Bull) shark, 2 Potato Bass and lots of reef fish. Mid water we had 2 Hammerhead sharks at first and then another 3 Hammerhead sharks as we went up.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had about 5 to 10 Ragged-tooth sharks chilling around the reef. We also had a very curious Potato Bass and a big school of Bigeye Kingfish. Mid water we had a Hammerhead shark come SUPER close to some of the divers and it made an appearance again later in the dive.

DIVE 3 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 20+ Ragged-tooth sharks , 2 Potato Bass, lots of reef fish, Tropicals and 4 big Cape Yellowtails. Mid water we had lots of Protea Bream and 1 Purple Rockcod.

DIVE 4 - Northern Pinnacle: On our way down to the reef we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark follow us down. On the reef we must have had more than 20 to 30 Ragged-tooth sharks all around the cave. We also had 2 Potato Bass and some Yellowtail following us around. Mid water we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark stay with us for the rest of our dive.

Now that my friends was an amazing yet relaxing day of diving!!

DIVE 1 - Baited Shark dive: On the dive we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark and 1 Dusky shark. The Blacktip didn't stay for very long, then we had the Dusky shark doing the baited for us. We also had a Hammerhead shark pass by in the distance.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark circling above us. We also had 2 Potato Bass and some beautiful reef fish. Lots of interesting Jellyfish and Plankton mid water.

DIVE 3 - Northern Pinnacle: We dropped down on 2 Ragged-tooth sharks. We then did a slow drift over the reef where we saw 2 Potato Bass, lots of small reef fish and 2 Ragged-tooth sharks.

DIVE 4 - Northern Pinnacle: As we got to the reef we had a Ragged-tooth shark chill around on the reef. We also had a very curious Potato Bass following us around. Mid water we had some Yellowtail and the cutest little Jellyfishes.

So all in all I think Protea Banks is just preparing us for a EPIC adventure soon. Can't be so spoiled all the time :) LOL!

Northern Pinnacle: On the way down we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark. On the reef we had 5 Ragged-tooth sharks and loads of reef fish. Mid water we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark.

HAMMERHEADS, RAGGIES AND WAY MORE ...

Sea Temp: 18 degrees Celsius at the bottom, 20 at the top

DIVE 1 - Northern Pinnacle: On the way down we saw 3 Potato Bass sneaking out the cave. In the cave we had no Raggies but the reef was full of Ragged-tooth sharks. As we struggled to swim against the slight reverse current one diver saw a shoal of Hammerhead sharks and then it happened we got superpowers and the current was no challenge anymore. Mid water we had 1 Dusky shark, 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks and 3 Potato Bass.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had loads of Ragged-tooth sharks, the fish life was booming today with Tropicals, Green Jobfish, Poensies, Cape Yellowtail, Rock Salmon and lots more. We didn't have any sharks mid water but while we had our long bottom time in the cold water we had 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks chilling in the warmer mid water.

Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks just above us in the warmer water, The fish life was also busy loads of Green Jobfish, Bream, Tropicals and reef fish. Mid water we had 1 shoal of Hammerhead sharks and 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark.

Three shades of colours today, 4 dives each very different ... only Protea Banks!!!

Viz: 10m at the bottom and top, 5m mid water (dark )
Sea Temp: 16 degrees Celsius at the bottom, 22 at the top

DIVE 1 - Northern Pinnacle: As we got into the water we had such a wake up call with the water temperature Brrr!! ... made our way to the first cave the reef it was alive so many fishes around. We then had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark and 3 Ragged-tooth sharks hanging out on the reef. In the second cave had 2 Ragged-tooth sharks and Mr. Potato Bass.

DIVE 2 - Baited Shark Dive: It was a very exciting BAITED dive on Protea Banks today. The viz was less than 5m so when we saw the Oceanic Blacktip sharks they were in your face like "whatssss up or Boe!." We only had 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks on our dive, but trust me I think all the divers were pretty happy that there were only 2. (Whales and a Manta Ray seen from the boat).

DIVE 3 - Northern Pinnacle - With the viz being on the down side, it made our dive quite interesting with the element of surprise. We could only see the sharks when there were RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF US!! On the reef we had 2 Potato Bass and 4 Ragged-tooth sharks. Mid water we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark popping in and out for the rest of the dive. Lots of Jellyfish and Plankton. (We also had some amazing Whale action from the boat on the way back).

DIVE 4 - Southern Pinnacle: Lots of flying fish from the boat on the way there. The viz got a little better on this dive however super quiet. We had lots of reef fish all over and a Potato Bass in the distance. Mid water was relaxed and we got to have a closer look at all the interesting Jellyfish and Plankton. Good to be in the water and have such a relaxed dive.

Sea Temp: 16 degrees Celsius at the bottom, 20 at the top

DIVE 1 - Northern Pinnacle: In the first cave we had 1 baby Ragged-tooth shark. On the reef we had 2 Round Ribbontail Rays, 4 Ragged-tooth sharks, lots of Bream, 4 Potato Bass and reef fish. Mid water we had nothing.

DIVE 2 - Northern Pinnacle: On the way down we had 1 pod of Dolphins, they stayed with us for at least 2 minutes. On the reef we had 3 Round Ribbontail Rays, 5 Ragged-tooth sharks, 2 Potato Bass, lots of Bream and reef fish. We had the same pod of Dolphins before we went up. Mid water we had 1 shoal of Tuna and 1 Diamond stingray.

FELT LIKE A NIGHT DIVE TODAY ON THE REEF.

Southern Pinnacle: Once we got down to the reef we had close ups with the fish, loads of reef fish, lots of Bream, huge school of Bigeye Kingfish and big Dusky Rubberlips at the Pinnacle. Mid water we had a small shoal of Hammerhead sharks, 2 single Greater Hammerhead sharks and 3 or 4 Oceanic Blacktip sharks.

Was a great dive, the Viz changed the game a bit but the sharks made it worth it.

LAUNCH, WIND, WAVES ... THEN WE GOT IN THE WATER AND CALM, RELAXED AND PEACEFUL.

DIVE 1 - Southern Pinnacle: On our way down to the reef we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark follow us down. On the reef we had lots of reef and game fish with 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks. Mid water we had 3 Oceanic Blacktip sharks popping in and out for the rest of the dive.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: As we got in we were met by two Oceanic Blacktip sharks. The reef was alive with reef and game fish. Also a Potato Bass popped in. Mid water we had at least 3 Oceanic Blacktip sharks popping in and out for the rest of the dive.

DIVE 1 - Baited Shark Dive: SHARKS GALORE!!! Backwards roll off the boat and BOOM!! 5 Oceanic Blacktip sharks!!! As the dive went on we had about another 5 Oceanic Blacktips join in and chill with us for the rest of the dive. INSANE!!

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: What a relaxed chilled dive with enough to see without being too spoilt. On the reef we had a single Hammerhead shark and then a group of about 60 Hammerhead sharks in the distance. On Kingfish Gully we had a big shoal of Kingfish. On Sandshark Gully we must have seen at least 10 Guitar sharks. For the rest of the dive Oceanic Blacktip sharks we constantly popping in and out and on the safety stop we had a Dusky shark circling us. Great dive even though the viz was not fantastic.

DIVE 3 - Southern Pinnacle: You know you are going to have a great dive when you see a shoal of about 100 - 200 Hammerhead sharks within the first 5 minutes of the dive!! Coming so close that we almost felt like we had to make way for them. LOL! We also had 2 Oceanic Blacktip Sharks popping in and out. All this action and we weren't even on the reef yet!!! On the reef we had lots of reef fish and massive schools of Bigeye Kingfish. On the Pinnacle we had another 50 shoaling Hammerhead sharks pass by. As we started to multi level we had a Greater Hammerhead swim right up to us then dash off. Mid water we had 3 Oceanic Blacktip sharks stay with us for the rest of the dive.

DIVE 1 - Baited Shark Dive: AMAZEBALLS OF A DIVE!!! Sharks on the left, sharks on the right ... everywhere we looked there were 15+ Oceanic Blacktip sharks ... far away then up close it was amazing. Malabar came in to say Hi as well. Down at the bottom we had a shy Zambezi (Bull) shark popping in and out.

DIVE 2 - Northern Pinnacle: As soon as we got in the water we had two Dolphins swim right past us. On the bottom we had two Potato Bass, super cute boxfish, a shoal of Bigeye Kingfish and a Round Ribbontail Ray. We also had 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks popping in and out, a shoal of about 50 Hammerhead Sharks, 2 Guitar Sharks on Sandshark Gully. Mid water we had 3 Oceanic Blacktip sharks staying with us for the rest of the dive.

DIVE 3 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 2 Oceanic Blacktip Sharks and a Hammerhead Shark with tons of Gamefish around. The reef was alive with reef fish.and we had a Potato Bass showing his face for a brief moment. Mid water we had we had about 3 Oceanic Blacktip shark keeping us busy for the rest of the dive.

Northern Pinnacle: On the reef we had lots of reef fish, big Rubberlips, 1 Potato Bass, 1 Greater Hammerhead sharks and 1 Eagle Ray. Mid water we had 6 sets of shoaling Hammerhead sharks. Among the shoaling scalloped Hammerhead sharks we had a few Greater Hammerhead sharks and 3 Oceanic Blacktip sharks.

HAMMERHEADS, RAGGIES, OCEANIC BLACKTIP SHARKS AND MORE ...

DIVE 1 - Baited Shark Dive: EPIC from beginning to end!!!!!! With at least 20+ Oceanic Blacktips sharks on the drum, 2 Bull (Zambezi) sharks underneath and 2 shy Dusky sharks ... the dive was action packed. AND if that was not enough, there were two sets of shoaling Hammerheads sharks.

DIVE 2 - Northern Pinnacle: As we got to the bottom we were met by a friendly Potato Bass. We drifted into the second cave where we had no sharks but lots of shark teeth and a HUGE Nudibranch ... lol. As we drifted along we saw 2 Ragged-tooth sharks and a Potato Bass. Mid water we had some Hammerhead sharks pop in and a small shoal of Hammerhead sharks. Nice chilled dive.

DIVE 3 - Southern Pinnacle: As we were coning down to the reef a big shoal of Hammerhead sharks came by. The reef was stunning with lots of reef and gamefish. Mid water we had another shoal of Hammerhead sharks. AND then the Oceanic Blacktip sharks came out to play and we must have had at least 5 Oceanic Blacktip sharks popping in and out.

RAGGED-TOOTH SHARKS STILL HANGING AROUND ON PROTEA BANKS

DIVE 1 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had plenty of small reef fish and 1 Greater Hammerhead shark. Mid water we had just the company of the plankton around us.

DIVE 2 - Northern Pinnacle: We dropped straight into the first cave where we had 6 Ragged-tooth sharks. On the reef we had 1 Potato Bass, 1 big school of Barracuda and loads of reef fish. Mid water we had 1 small shoal of Hammerhead sharks and 3 Oceanic Blacktip sharks.

DIVE 1 - Baited Shark Dive: As we went down we could only see 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark, the shark went away for a few seconds and came back with a bit over 10 Oceanic Blacktip sharks. On our safety stop we had 2 Dusky sharks.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef dive we had lots of reef fish and no sharks. Mid water we had 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks and 1 shoal of Hammerhead sharks.

NORTHERN PINNACLE IS BOOMING WITH SHARKS.

Northern Pinnacle: On our way down we had 1 Zambezi (Bull) shark and as we got to the first cave it was full of Ragged-tooth sharks but we drifted over. Between the two caves we had 1 Zambezi (Bull) shark and at the second cave we had 1 Ragged tooth shark. On the reef we had loads of reef fish and 1 Greater Hammerhead shark. Mid water we had 6 Oceanic Blacktip sharks, 1 shoal of Hammerhead sharks and 4 or 5 single Hammerhead sharks. We also had a Dusky shark.

DIVE 1 - Northern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 1 Ragged-tooth shark, 1 Potato Bass, loads of reef fish and 1 Eagle Ray. Mid water we had 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks with us until the end. We also had 3 Oceanic Blacktip sharks passing by. With all the Blacktips out the way we also had 5 sets of shoaling Hammerhead sharks, 1 Zambezi (Bull) shark and 5 Dusky sharks.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had loads of reef fish. At the pinnacle we had the same school of Bigeye Kingfish. Mid water we had 1 shoal of Hammerhead sharks, 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks and a Dusky shark popping in and out.

DIVE 1 - Southern Pinnacle: As we got down we had 2 Scalloped Hammerhead sharks, just a bit further we had 1 Greater Hammerhead shark. At the pinnacle we had a huge school of Bigeye Kingfish, 1 Ragged-tooth shark and a Potato Bass. On Sand shark Gully we had 1 Hammerhead shark and 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark. Mid water we had 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks and 1 Dusky shark.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had loads of reef fish. At the pinnacle we had the same school of Bigeye Kingfish. Mid water we had 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks popping in and out.
