Dive Logbook for PROTEA BANKS

WAY OVER 300 RAGGED-TOOTH SHARKS ON PROTEA BANKS TODAY ... NO JOKES!!! DON'T READ AND WEEP ... READ AND BALL YOUR EYES OUT ... WHAT A MIND BLOWING DIVE TODAY ... 'RAGGIES' EVERYWHERE, REALLY EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

13 July 2013 | PROTEA BANKS

Current: mild
Viz: 10m
Sea Temp: 21 degrees Celsius near the surface and 19 degrees Celsius at the bottom

Northern Pinnacles: I was told that if I did not post a minimum of 300 Ragged-tooth sharks it would be doing the dive injustice as way more than 300 were seen. If you look at the photo, it looks like how we see the Hammerhead sharks stacked, but today it was Ragged-tooth sharks as far as the eye could see. If that was not enough to get the divers excited, we also had 5 Oceanic Blacktip sharks. 2 Potato Bass. 1 Musslecracker. The reef was also just so full of fish. A dive that most cannot even try and imagine. If you were not diving today you are a CHOP ... and I guess that finally makes me a CHOP as I was in the shop.

WORTH A DAY IN THE WATER.

A GREAT DAY OUT AT SEA!!

6 August 2013 | PROTEA BANKS

Current: medium to strong
Viz: 10m, murky
Sea Temp: 20 degrees Celsius

Southern Pinnacles: For the first part of the dive there was a strong current so although there were probably a lot of reef fish to see, it all went by pretty quickly and no sharks, so I was cursing thinking that Lisa had taken all the luck back to Cape Town with her. After 20 minutes the action started, 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark, then another and another. Well lets just say the next 40 minutes of the dive the Oceanic Blacktip sharks were in and out the whole time, with us seeing up to 3 at one time. We heard Whales for most of the dive and were so loud I was sure we would have a sighting, but not this time. Lots of interesting Plankton today. A GREAT DAY OUT AT SEA!!

With very little current on Protea Banks we managed to spend some time exploring the wonders of the reef.
