WARM AND RELAXED DIVE ON PROTEA BANKS TODAY.

21 December 2018 | PROTEA BANKS

Viz: 15m bottom, 12m top (Plankton)
Sea Temp: 23 degrees Celsius (top) ,21 degrees Celsius (bottom)

Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 2 friendly Potato Bass with lots of reef fish and gamefish. Mid water we saw 1 Round Ribbontail Ray at the bottom and we had 1 Mobula Ray.

100's AND 100's AND 100's OF HAMMERHEAD SHARKS ON PROTEA BANKS TODAY!!!!

Sea Temp: 23 degrees Celsius (top), 21 degrees Celsius (bottom)

DIVE 1 - Southern Pinnacle: As we got down to the reef we had 1 Ragged-tooth shark and 1 Dusky shark. As we drifted we had 4 shoals of 100's and 100's of Hammerhead sharks, 1 Potato Bass, another Ragged-tooth shark, 1 Zambezi (Bull) shark and 2 Round Ribbontail Rays. Mid water we had 3 shoals of Hammerhead sharks, 5 Dusky sharks stalking the Hammerhead sharks and 2 Mobula Rays. AND A CRAB ... LOL.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: As we started going down we had a shoal of Hammerhead sharks. On the reef we had 1 Potato Bass, 1 Zambezi (Bull) shark, 2 Round Ribbontail Rays and more Hammerhead sharks. Mid water we had 2 Dusky sharks and 100's and 100's of Hammerhead sharks passing by us.

What an EPIC DAY!!!

WOW TWO VERY DIFFERENT DIVES ON PROTEA BANKS TODAY!!!

DIVE 1 - Baited Shark Dive: We had to work super hard today to get the sharks attention but when we did ... there were shoaling Hammerhead at the bottom of us and then above us. We also had 3 Oceanic Blacktip sharks popping in and out. After all the hard work it turned out to be an awesome dive.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: As we got to the reef we had 4 Round Ribbontail Rays chilling around. We also has a very friendly Potato Bass staying with us for our entire bottom time. Lots of gamefish and reef fishes around. Mid water was quiet so we started to enjoy looking at all the interesting Plankton and jellyfish. Next moment we had a Mobula Ray circle around us like twice then it disappeared into the distance.

Northern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 2 Potato Bass, lots of reef fish and gamefish seen. As we started going up we had 1 Ragged-tooth shark popping in. Mid water we had a wide range of Plankton.

Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 8 Round Ribbontail Rays (2 of the Round Ribbontail Rays were massive). We couldn't see much at the bottom but we had some reef fish and 1 Potato Bass swimming around. Mid water we had 1 Zambezi (Bull) shark and 1 frisky Oceanic Blacktip shark.

DIVE 1 - Baited Shark Dive: As we dropped in we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark swimming around for 20 seconds and then just gone. We then decided to go up again and suddenly we had this 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark and 1 Hammerhead shark, they stayed for a bit longer.

DIVE 2 - Northern Pinnacle: On the reef we had lots of gamefish, reef fish and 1 Malabar. In the second cave we had 4 Ragged-tooth sharks. Mid water we had 2 Hammerhead sharks and lots of Plankton.

Northern Pinnacle: Got down to the first cave where we had 6 Ragged-tooth sharks. On the reef we had 30+ Ragged-tooth sharks, lots of reef fish, gamefish and 1 Potato Bass. Mid water we only had 1 Dusky shark.

RAINING TIGERS AND HAMMERHEADS TODAY ON PROTEA BANKS.

Sea Temp: 23 degrees Celsius

DIVE 1 - Northern Pinnacle: As we got down we saw 1 TIGER shark so we went after it and the TIGER decided to turn around and WOW ... that is one way to feel small. We also had 1 Zambezi (Bull) shark and on the fishy side we had 2 Cape Yellowtail, 1 Yellowbelly Rockcod, Bream and many more reef fish. Mid water we had Peter chasing around Hammerhead sharks. The TIGER came passed again and at the end we had 1 shoal of Hammerhead sharks.

DIVE 2 - Northern Pinnacle: As we got down to the reef we had 1 shoal of Hammerhead sharks being chased by a pod of Dolphin. Also 40+ 'shoaling' Ragged-tooth sharks. In the cave we had some more Ragged-tooth sharks - while everyone picked up shark teeth we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark and 1 shoal of Hammerhead sharks passing over. As we drifted we had more Ragged-tooth sharks ... the Dolphins came passed again and plenty of reef fish. Mid water we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark, 3 sets of shoaling Hammerhead sharks, 1 single Hammerhead shark and 1 TIGER shark.

Southern Pinnacle: Got down to the reef and we 1 Round Ribbontail Ray. As we made our way to THE ARCH we has a pod of Dolphins come by. We then had about 5 Ragged-tooth sharks chilling around THE ARCH. We then had a couple of single Hammerhead sharks pop in to say hi and then a HUGE set of shoaling Hammerheads sharks. Lots of Yellowtail, Tuna, Rainbow Runners and 2 Potato Bass, Really relaxed dive.

WOW!!! SOUTHERNS WAS THE SPOT TO BE TODAY ON PROTEA BANKS!!!!!

DIVE 1 - Southern Pinnacle: Got down to the reef and we had 6 Ragged-tooth sharks, 1 Round Ribbontail Ray and 1 Potato Bass that came in to say Hello. Further on the reef we had more Ragged-tooth sharks, a massive shoal of Bigeye Kingfish, 1 Potato Bass and we had a Pod of Dolphins swimming over us. Mid water we had just Plankton. Safety stop we had 1 shoal of Hammerhead sharks.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: As we got to the reef the viz cleared up and the reef was ALIVE!! We must have had at least 20+ Ragged-tooth harks scattered all over. We also had 3 Hammerhead sharks pass right over us and everyone got to see them!! Then we had 3 Potato Bass, a Brindle Bass, MASSIVE Round Ribbontail Ray, Starry Moray Eel, some Bigeye Kingfish and Yellowtails. Mid water we had some interesting Plankton and Jelly Fish.

FINALLY THE HAMMERHEADS CAME OUT TO PLAY

Southerns Pinnacle: So we got down to the reef and we saw 1 Ragged-tooth shark then another one and then we saw the shoal of Hammerhead sharks that lead us to the secret spot where all the Hammerhead sharks come to meet ... we had constant sightings of the shoals of Hammerhead sharks. We had also 10+ Ragged-tooth sharks, 4 Round Ribbontail Rays, a huge shoals of Bigeye Kingfish, shoal of big Cape Yellowtails and lots of Tuna. Mid water we had Hammerhead sharks, Oceanic Blacktip sharks, Greater Hammerhead sharks and lots of bait fish. EPIC DIVE!!!!!!!

Baited Shark Dive: So after 20 minutes of sitting and waiting 1 very happy Dusky shark decided to show up and entertain our divers with some close encounters. Lots of Plankton so Kym decided to do Plankton ID with the divers.

TIGER, HAMMERHEADS, BLACKTIP, DUSKY AND MUCH MORE ON PROTEA BANKS

Sea Temp: 20 degrees at bottom - 23 degrees Celsius mid water

DIVE 1- Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 5 Ragged-tooth sharks chilling, some of the divers saw 1 Tiger shark following the group from behind and while they were checking out the Tiger the other divers saw 1 Hammerhead shark. At the pinnacle we had 1 Eagle Ray, 2 Round Ribbontail Rays and just over sand shark gully we had 1 shoal of Hammerhead sharks. Mid water we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark and 1 Dusky shark.

DIVE 2- Southern Pinnacle: On the way to the reef we had a huge shoal of Bigeye Kingfish. On the reef we had 10+ Ragged-tooth sharks and as we turned around BOOM!!!! We had a huge shoal of Hammerhead sharks from top to bottom. As we drifted we had another 4 lonely Hammerhead sharks, 3 Round Ribbontail Rays, and 1 Eagle Ray.

4 SPECIES OF SHARKS ON PROTEA BANKS DIVE TODAY!

Sea Temp: 20 degrees at bottom - 23 degrees Celsius mid water

Southern Pinnacle: As we got to the reef it was chilly and decreased viz, but lots of action at the bottom. The dive started with us seeing several Ragged-tooth sharks scattered over the reef. Then two Dusky sharks came in to play. We also had a HUGE Zambezi (Bull) shark pass by. Also entertaining us were 2 Potato Bass and a Round Ribbontail Ray. Coming up to mid water the water got warmer and cleaner, I was ready for Hammerhead shark spotting and I was not disappointed. Two BIG shoals of Hammerhead sharks and 1 Hammerhead shark just behind a big shoal of Rainbow Runners. Whales could be heard throughout the dive.

Northern Pinnacle: On the reef we must have had 10 Ragged-tooth sharks for our entire bottom time. We also had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark popping in. Loads of reef fish and game fish around. Kym saw 1 Nudibranch and loads of Plankton. Mid water we had 5 Hammerhead sharks and Smiley, the Oceanic Blacktip shark, was popping in and out.

SO GOOD TO BE IN THE WATER BUT BBBBRRRR!!!!!

Northern Pinnacle: On the reef we must have had at least 20 to 30 Ragged-tooth sharks for our entire bottom time. We also had a Potato Bass, some Bigeye Kingfish and lost of reef and game fish. Mid water we had a TURTLE swim right up to us and circle around us. Lots of interesting jellyfish and plankton.

Sea Temp: 18 degrees at the bottom and 23 degrees Celsius at the top

DIVE 1 - Northern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 5 Ragged-tooth sharks while we hovered over the the first cave. 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks came dipping down into the cold water to say HI !! As we drifted along the reef we had some fun and went to the swim through. Mid water we heard some Dolphins but didn't see them.

DIVE 2 - Baited Shark Dive: As we got into the water and had 2 Oceanic Blacktip sharks waiting around the drum. As the dive went on we 2 more joined in and we had a Zambezi (Bull) shark circling at about 15m. We also had a MASSIVE Eagle Ray joining in and gracefully making his way into the distance again!!! Actually thought it as a Manta in the beginning due to size. LOL! And we also had a single Hammerhead shark pass by as we were about to get out!!! GREAT DIVE!!!

GETTING BETTER AND BETTER BY THE DAY!! WHOOHHOO!!!!

DIVE 1 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 10+ Ragged-tooth sharks, 1 Eagle Ray, 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark in the distance and loads of reef fish. Mid water we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: What a chilled dive!! As we got to the reef we had 3 Ragged-tooth sharks staying around with us for a few minutes. The reef was amazing with lots of reef fish everywhere, with a Potato Bass in the distance. Lots of schools of Bigeye Kingfish and Rainbow Runners. As we started to multilevel we had 2 Zambezi (Bull) sharks. Mid water we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark make a quick appearance before we got out the water.

DIVE 3 - Northern Pinnacle: On the reef we came down into a bunch of Ragged-tooth sharks. In the first cave we had no sharks but on the reef we had a few around us. We had 1 Huge shoal of Hammerhead sharks swimming over us, after we had the shoal of Hammerhead sharks we had one single swimming Hammerhead shark and it stayed for a few seconds circling us. Mid water we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark.

DIVE 4 - Northern Pinnacle: On our way down to the reef we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark. As we got to the first cave we had a massive shoal of at least 100 Hammerhead sharks pass right above and around us!!! No sharks in the cave however we had a few around and on the rest of the reef. Mid water we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark popping in and out.

The sea was a bit rough, but the diving was so worth it!!!!

SHARKS, SHARKS AND MORE SHARKS!!! SO STOKED WE GOT TO SEE A BIT MORE ON PROTEA BANKS TODAY!!

DIVE 1 - Northern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 5 Ragged-tooth sharks. Some of the divers saw a Zambezi (Bull) shark, 2 Potato Bass and lots of reef fish. Mid water we had 2 Hammerhead sharks at first and then another 3 Hammerhead sharks as we went up.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had about 5 to 10 Ragged-tooth sharks chilling around the reef. We also had a very curious Potato Bass and a big school of Bigeye Kingfish. Mid water we had a Hammerhead shark come SUPER close to some of the divers and it made an appearance again later in the dive.

DIVE 3 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had 20+ Ragged-tooth sharks , 2 Potato Bass, lots of reef fish, Tropicals and 4 big Cape Yellowtails. Mid water we had lots of Protea Bream and 1 Purple Rockcod.

DIVE 4 - Northern Pinnacle: On our way down to the reef we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark follow us down. On the reef we must have had more than 20 to 30 Ragged-tooth sharks all around the cave. We also had 2 Potato Bass and some Yellowtail following us around. Mid water we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark stay with us for the rest of our dive.

Now that my friends was an amazing yet relaxing day of diving!!

ROUGH AND TOUGH!! IN THE WATER AND OUT ON PROTEA BANKS TODAY!!

DIVE 1 - Baited Shark dive: On the dive we had 1 Oceanic Blacktip shark and 1 Dusky shark. The Blacktip didn't stay for very long, then we had the Dusky shark doing the baited for us. We also had a Hammerhead shark pass by in the distance.

DIVE 2 - Southern Pinnacle: On the reef we had an Oceanic Blacktip shark circling above us. We also had 2 Potato Bass and some beautiful reef fish. Lots of interesting Jellyfish and Plankton mid water.

DIVE 3 - Northern Pinnacle: We dropped down on 2 Ragged-tooth sharks. We then did a slow drift over the reef where we saw 2 Potato Bass, lots of small reef fish and 2 Ragged-tooth sharks.

DIVE 4 - Northern Pinnacle: As we got to the reef we had a Ragged-tooth shark chill around on the reef. We also had a very curious Potato Bass following us around. Mid water we had some Yellowtail and the cutest little Jellyfishes.

So all in all I think Protea Banks is just preparing us for a EPIC adventure soon. Can't be so spoiled all the time :) LOL!
