23 January 2016 | PROTEA BANKS
Current: strong
Viz: 30m (Plankton near the surface)
Sea Temp: 24 degrees Celsius
DIVE 1 – Southern Pinnacle: As we got to the dive site there were already Dolphins, but unfortunately by the time we got in the water they were gone. As we dropped in we could see all the way to the bottom … fantastic viz! Kingfish Gully was alive, a Potato Bass chilling there and lots of Kingfish and reef fish. We had Zambezi (Bull), Oceanic Blacktip or Hammerhead sharks entertaining us for the entire dive. On Sand Shark Gully, we had a Guitar shark and 2 Round Ribbontail Rays. Midwater we had a shoal of about 50 Hammerhead sharks. On the safety stop, just as we were about to get out a Copper shark came to say Hi.
DIVE 2 – BAITED SHARK DIVE: With at least 9 different Zambezi (Bull) sharks on the dive and great viz, there was non stop action. I also saw a Hammerhead sharks in the distance. We also had 3 Dolphins. Also a few reef fish popping in and out. EPIC DIVE!!. What made this dive super special, it was the first time I had my 2 boys on Protea Banks. Ty de Bruyn, only 8, assisted by Jenelle Pillay and Tyrone Edwards got to snorkel with the Zambezi (Bull) sharks. Dru de Bruyn, only 10, came down with me on scuba to about 5m and saw some Zambezi (Bull) sharks, but unfortunately his ears were hurting so he got out. I AM SUCH A PROUD MOMMY TODAY! XXXX
We also saw Dolphins and Flying fish from the boat.
