BUSY DAY ON PROTEA BANKS.

15 November 2020 | PROTEA BANKS

Current: medium to strong
Viz: 8 to 10m, lots of Plankton
Sea Temp: 22 degrees Celsius midwater, 20 degrees Celsius

DIVE 1 – Southern Pinnacle: As we hit the water a Bull (Zambezi) shark popped in to say Hi. We had a great drift with two Oceanic Blacktip sharks and a set of shoaling Hammerhead sharks pass us by. When we got to Sandshark Gully, there were at least 20 Guitar sharks scattered all over and we also saw 3 Round Ribbontail Rays. Midwater was quieter but filled with so much interesting Plankton.

DIVE 2 – Southern Pinnacle: Action packed drift dive. At Sandshark Gully 3 Guitar sharks were spotted. Midwater we had 3 sets of Shoaling Hammerhead sharks come through. We also spotted 2 Eagle Rays and an Oceanic Blacktip shark.

DIVE 3 – Northern Pinnacle: We decided to do the Northern Pinnacle for a change of scenery but we knew we were taking a risk this time of year. We drifted over the caves but there were no Ragged-tooth sharks. The reef was stunning with so many beautiful reef fish. Midwater a Bull (Zambezi) shark popped in. A small shoal of Hammerhead sharks was seen by the Divemaster.

Lots of Flying Fish seen from the boat and Humpback Whales were heard underwater.
