Sardine Run

an experience of a lifetime

Come and experience one of the wonders of the natural world as we take you on an underwater adventure that will blow your mind! The sardine run occurs from May through July when billions of sardines spawn in the cool waters of the Agulhas Bank and move northward along the east coast of South Africa. Their sheer numbers create a feeding frenzy for hungry and opportunistic predators from the depths, and even from the air above!

Massive pods of Common Dolphins and Bottlenose Dolphins, Humpback, Southern Right, Minky and Brydes Whales as well as some shark, all taking the opportunity in this natural hunt.

Season – June until end July

We tend to schedule our Run dates for the last week in June until the first week in July (May vary a few days) We operate from Mdumbi Beach, Transkei (about 10 km from Coffee Bay)

For this trip we pack up base in Shelly Beach and operate from Transkei, Eastern Cape for the entire duration of our Sardine Run dates.

This is classified as an Ocean Safari so anyone can do this as it is mostly snorkelling with a few opportunities to scuba if a Baitball stays stationary.

We offer great packages with accommodation at The Anchorage Hotel including meals and much more.

Check out our packages for this trip!
